THE PURPOSE of
this newsletter: to note and share items of possible interest for the "greater
Pomnitz Family". The 119 family names mentioned in the Family Tree are listed
at http://www.pomnitz.net/history/surnames_list.htm.
Please do send me suggestions or ideas for future newsletters: they will be
taken seriously.
WHO IS THIS NEWSLETTER BEING SENT TO? To everyone we know of associated with the family names (see above).
We are using E-MAIL ADDRESSES if we know them, and POSTAL SERVICE ADDRESSES if we
have no e-mail address for you. If you can receive e-mail, please let us know for
future mailing: it would save expense (paper and postage) and time. Thanks.
HOW OUR WEBSITE CAME TO BE: Charles ("Chuck") Pomnitz and Ed Pomnitz, Sr. built upon
the groundwork created by June Meissner Kelm. She did the basic research several
decades ago, inspiring Chuck, and then Ed, to bring their specialties to bear. Chuck
spearheaded the dogged work of research over many a year. Ed joined him in this,
became fascinated by it all, and then contributed his own Professional help in creating
our Website and the on-line Family Tree, with all of its intricacies.
EDITORS WARNING: YOU ARE NOT
SEEING DOUBLE! You may have noticed the repeated use of
"Charles" and "Edwin" in the Pomnitz family. (See the carefully
researched article on the Website on "The Name Charles": http://www.pomnitz.net/history/charles.htm.
For instance, our Historian/Researcher is Charles Edwin Pomnitz (we call him
"Chuck"). Our Webmaster/Researcher is Edwin Charles Pomnitz (we call him
"Ed"). ... It gets worse: Eds father was Charles
("Chuck") Pomnitz, son of Charles Edwin Pomnitz, no relation to our present day
"Chuck" who is a second cousin to Ed!! Chucks father and Eds
grandfather were twin brothers: Jacob and Charles.
In recent time, our "Ed" named one
of his sons "Edwin Charles Pomnitz, Jr.", thus becoming "Edwin Charles
Pomnitz, Sr." Ed broke out of the pack, as it were, even as he continued
tradition. Neat trick!
Some of this infected the Meissner family,
through Celia Pomnitz Meissner: she Married a "John Charles Meissner", who
named his firstborn "June Carol" (the feminine version of "John
Charles"), and his first son "John Charles Meissner, Jr.", thus becoming
John Charles Meissner, Sr. That impetus is still with us with John Charles Meissner,
Jr., III and also IV!...
Me? My name is Art. When I came along
Mom and Dad gave it all up. My sons are named Scott and Geoff. ... Is it any wonder
that we need a Family Tree, spelling it all out?

FAMILY WEBSITE:
http://www.pomnitz.net.
There is MUCH there. Please take time to check out the accuracy of any of
your familys data and submit corrections as you spot the need. SUGGESTION:
Perhaps the best way to check-in to the Website is to go to the Table of Contents
at http://www.pomnitz.net/wc/toc.htm. Why?
There you can see all that is available and go directly to your particular
interest.
CHECK-OUT THE "IN TOUCH" area, http://www.pomnitz.net/intouch/index.htm.
It is a "discussion group" entitled "Family Forum". This
area is intended for all Family Members (only) and provides a means to ask questions,
share information and stories with other Family Members. It requires a "USER
ID" and "PASSWORD". To receive your own unique login information, all
you need to do is request it by an E-Mail to webmaster@pomnitz.net.
PLEASE SEND US
family stories and notes of interest for future newsletters. Send in questions, too,
about any aspect of the Family Tree or history. Well have our Master Sleuth,
Chuck Pomnitz, track down answers for you. Jot down a bio-note about yourself, one
of your parents, or one of your immediate family. They will be shared and saved in
the Archives.
FAMILY BIOGRAPHIES: Here are two: One by an older family member and one by a
younger. Wed greatly welcome some "Bios" from within the Binneys,
Kelms, Gows, Hanmers and others for future newsletters:

Charles
Edwin Pomnitz (Family Historian): I served in the U.S. Army throughout World War II
in the South-west Pacific. After the war I worked for the City of Detroit and
retired as a Fire-Lieutenant in 1968. I had been active in veterans affairs
and continued on in the capacity of Senior Service Officer for the American Veterans under
the auspices of the State of Michigan, Department of Veterans Affairs. I
worked in that capacity until I retired from the State in 1982... In the intervening
years I had returned to Wayne University in Detroit for studies interrupted in 1941 by the
call to arms... I married Helen on June 1, 1946. We had met at the
J.L. Hudson Co., in Detroit, where we were both employed, and corresponded during the war.
Our children are Patricia Ann, born Oct. 2, 1947 and Barbara Marie, born March 27,
1954... Pat is married to Jim Kusiak, who has been in the computer field since
its inception. His chief client is the Daimler-Chrysler Corporation.
Barb is married to Glenn Page, who is an Assistant Prosecutor in Wayne County,
Michigan. His specialty is Criminal Law... Pat and Jim have three children:
Kristin born Feb 14 1970 is a graduate of Oakland University in Michigan. She
is working toward her Masters and is employed as a medical receptionist. Charles,
born June 19 1974 is working on a temporary hiatus from his studies. Matthew, born
March 27, 1976, has elected Biology as his Major and is working his way through school.
We would like to see him in the medical field... Barb and Glenn have three
children: Kathryn, born June 9, 1983 is a Senior in High School. She is in the
National Honor Society and hopes to enter University of Michigan. She is also a
musician. Rebecca, born Jan 29, 1986 is a Freshman in High School and is an athlete
and a musician. Alex, born Nov 12, 1987, is in all sports and also plays the drums
in the school band. Eric, born Oct 10, 1991 loves playing soccer with the school
team but has not committed himself to a musical instrument as yet.
